Podcast Guides Organizations on Best Practices for Implementing Enterprise Security in Windows Vista and Windows Server Longhorn
Somerset, NJ – June 1, 2007 -
Lumeta, the leading provider of network assurance solutions for enterprises and government agencies, revealed five critical steps to assist organizations in minimizing the business risk associated with migrating to Windows Vista. Lumeta CTO and Senior Vice President, Product Strategy, David Arbeitel, presents IT staff with strategies for reducing the time, cost and risk enhancing network security with Vista and Longhorn Server during a podcast titled “5 Steps to a Successful Vista Migration: How Network Assurance Minimizes Business Risk.” The podcast can be found at http://www.lumeta.com/podcasts/.
Windows Vista and Windows Server Longhorn enable organizations to reduce risk by implementing network security as a key component of the operating system. However, to ensure organizations take full advantage of Vista's security features, they must first identify all devices on the network, both managed and unmanaged, and then understand how these devices connect to each other to move data throughout the network. The lack of an accurate view of network architecture, connectivity, and security policies can result in unacceptable security risks and insufficient connectivity. Furthermore, without a comprehensive understanding of the physical infrastructure, organizations can experience significant delays, costs, and risks during the Vista migration process itself.
To maximize network security with Windows Vista, organizations must take these five critical steps:
- Understand current network connectivity and whether it is aligned with security policy;
- Learn about what is physically connected to the network;
- Determine which network assets can support Windows Vista and Longhorn;
- Define the architecture and policy for the future state of the network for Server & Domain Isolation implementation; and
- Deploy and continuously measure group policies to ensure that the configuration supports enterprise requirements for security and availability.
“With the introduction of Windows Vista, Microsoft now provides organizations with seamless network security capabilities built right into the Vista operating system. Server and Domain Isolation can be used to ensure that all communications between Windows Vista systems are authenticated,” said David Arbeitel, CTO Lumeta. “In order to take advantage of this significant new security capability and ensure the migration to Vista works as planned, organizations need to gather and maintain the most complete picture possible of a network’s architecture. Without an accurate and thorough understanding of the network, you may in fact weaken your network security posture, incur migration cost overruns and introduce business disruptions.”
Lumeta recently introduced a new service to assist federal agencies and commercial enterprises in planning a successful transition to Vista. Lumeta’s Vista Migration Planning Service leverages the company’s flagship network assurance solution, IPsonar®, to provide organizations with a detailed understanding of a network’s infrastructure and application connectivity, which is the first requirement for effectively implementing new network security functionality native to Windows Vista.
About Lumeta Corporation
Lumeta provides large enterprises and government agencies with the global visibility needed to quantify network risk and measure the impact of network change. Our network assurance solutions enable IT organizations to deploy new business services, maintain existing service levels and minimize network security risk to ensure compliant operations.
Lumeta’s flagship product, IPsonar, is the industry’s only solution that allows organizations to measure risk from a global network perspective. IPsonar maps every asset on a network—including assets not currently under management—visualizes the connectivity between assets and networks to uncover risk patterns and policy weaknesses, and enables network and security teams to bring unknown assets under management while deploying security technology more effectively to mitigate risk.
