Network Assurance in SCADA Networks:
Addressing Security Gaps Inherent in Migration to TCP/IP
For more detail, fill out this form to download our white paper, "Network Assurance's Role in Securing SCADA Networks"
As organizations deploy new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications, expand remote access points, and link control systems together, they also expose these next generation systems to serious risks and vulnerabilities that cannot be addressed solely through traditional physical control policies. The potential implications resulting from this exposure are high, especially since many of these systems control much of the world’s infrastructure. Often, these risks are underestimated due to complex network designs, lack of enforceable network security guidelines, and assumptions about the privacy of SCADA systems.
Today’s TCP/IP-integrated SCADA systems require that network security is considered at the same level of importance as system and data security. Network Assurance is the means for an organization to quantify network risk based on a comprehensive set of network risk metrics. A complement to system and data-level security solutions, Network Assurance completes the risk management equation by measuring the impact of network change on security, availability, and compliance.
To balance the forces of rapid infrastructure change and the need for high availability in SCADA networks, organizations must solidify the risk management lifecycle by closing inherent knowledge gaps and then working toward automation with full information. A Network Assurance program fills these gaps and addresses their accompanying pain points.
